Kiefer Sutherland’s art will grace 99X’s CD

By Richard L. Eldredge Tuesday, October 30, 2007, 09:04 AM

Between saving-the-world stints, “24” actor Kiefer Sutherland has found time to create the CD cover artwork for “Live X 12” the latest charitable disc from 99X.

As always, the locally recorded live cuts culled from the rock station’s roster will benefit the I Am 99X Foundation.

Over the past year, the Emmy winner has become a friend to the co-hosts of the station’s “New Morning X” as they’ve helped to break singer-songwriter Rocco DeLuca, a recording artist on Sutherland’s Ironworks record label. When the Morning X traveled to Los Angeles earlier this year to cover the Grammys, 99X program director Leslie Fram and co-worker Sean Demery got an exclusive tour of the Ironworks facility, including Sutherland’s living quarters.

“I was just walking around and noticed this painting area and this dark beautiful painting,” Fram tells Buzz. “Sean was busy touching his Emmys and I was nosing around looking at his art. It was pretty cool.”

Afterward, Fram made an official request for Sutherland to do the project’s artwork (previous contributors include Peter Max, Michael Stipe, David Bowie and Howard Finster, mind you).
This year’s “Live X” compilation features DeLuca, Perry Farrell, The Shins, Queens Of The Stone Age, Tom Morello, Rilo Kiley, Silversun Pickups, 30 Seconds To Mars, The Bravery, Dinosaur Jr. and others.

The disc will be released Nov. 20 exclusively at all metro-area Best Buy locations for $9.99.
The station will host a CD release party Nov. 7 at Smith’s Olde Bar in Midtown with a special performance by DeLuca.
